I had high hopes for this course but rather disappointed at the end. While not without merit this course doesn’t seem well thought out and didn’t feel quite complete.

One thing in particular that stands out is a challenge towards the end of the course with no follow-up video to ensure understanding.

Its difficult to review this course. It delivers in making an old school top down jrpg, yet there are plenty of things that need to improve on. Its outdated, James the instructor no longer is active in the comment section so if you have an issue, and you will, you have to figure it out on your own or hope another user added the solution to the comment section. You should be familiar with Unity and coding in Unity to take this course. I haven’t found any course like this in Udemy, its a shame it cant be better.

Badly needs an update. Looking at the Q&As, it seems the instructor hasn’t responded to any of them for about two years, which is sad because it was a great course

Overall good course. The pace was fast and felt very thrown together on the fly. I am all for building the plane as you fly it, but a little bit of structure goes a long way especially when you are dealing with beginners. Thank you!

Started completely fresh with next to no knowledge of Unity or coding in C# by the end of the course I was able to actually think through issues and solve my own problems as I built the game for the class.

Engaging instructor, great range of basics covered and taught well however I feel that some of the life and momentum starts to peter out towards the end of the course. When you get to combat combat and further it’s a bit of a ‘race to the finish’ and some of the energy and depth in the earlier sections is distinctly lacking. However would highly recommend to absolute beginners looking to get their heads around basics of unity 2D.

I’m loving the course so far, but it’s not complete beginner friendly, I’ve gotten stuck a couple of times. My advice for someone like me that had absolutely 0 knowledge of C# and Unity, to start with baby steps on C#. Overall, I’m still very happy with the course.

This course was very good in general, and very in-depth. However, I could not give it a full five star rating because there are a few nearly game breaking errors in the code that are never addressed by the instructor. The worst case of this is with the inventory system which had some issues with the item buttons in the shop, which would cause errors and unlimited gp. Several people in the comments had partial fixes to this issue, but my own fix required multiple changes to the code. This is a situation where the instructor should include an update with a fix for these issues. There are several small instances of this, and the course would be greatly improved with some updates and revisions.

The instructions are quite clear and being able to see everything while also hearing the explanation for it is helping to retain the information as well. Very well done!

Great content in the videos. One thing is that many have mentioned before is that the video are outdated quite a bit and sometimes you will have to look through the comments on how others might have fixed something that doesn’t work in todays versions. Other than that its great content and fundamentals to Unity.
