What you’ll learn

  • Scrape Data from Web Pages
  • Display Data using Swig and Angular
  • Use Request and Cheerio
In
this course you will learn how to scrape data from web pages using
the Request and Cheerio node modules.
  • We’ll
begin with an overview of how Request works to download pages and
    pipe out data.
  • Next,
we’ll look at the Cheerio and how we can use jQuery-like syntax to
    retrieve elements off a page.
  • Then we’ll
take what you’ve learned to create 2 sample web apps to scrape and
display data first to our console then to a web page.

What You Will Learn:

– How to download web pages using Request.

– How to then grab elements from the page using Cheerio

– Display the data on a web page. First, we’ll use Express and Swig to display Indeed job search data. Then we’ll use Angular to show an image and other details after a user inputs a URL.

Who This Course is For:

– Anyone with an interest in web scraping using Node. This is a beginner level course, so the only requirement is that you already have node.js installed.

Who this course is for:

  • You should already somewhat familiar with Node.js. We’re using express.js to set up our server and create a few routes. So some prior in experience is helpful.

As someone new to the MEAN stack, this was a great course that touched on all of the concepts at a beginner level, in addition to the web scraping instructions. Nice job.

He made it easy to follow and I was surprised how quick I was able to scrape the web. Lot of possibilities running through my head now.

Too fast , can accomplish work but without understanding for somebody without node js/web dev background. This demonstrates clearly how to scrape web pages.

Great course of Web Scraping with Node.js. But the Angular Application lessons isn’t so good like the others in the same course.

It was a good start but not as comprehensive as I would have liked.

I’m afraid the teacher should not partially update this course and leave it unattended for so long. I feel stuck on Lecture 8 and should not be. I would have preferred old materials to be left there. All lectures in one update or none, or let buyers know about it before their purchase.

O curso foi muito corrido e acabou não concluindo o que se propôs: ele incluiu o mongodb e não salvou nada no banco, ele por diversas vezes colou varias linhas de codigo enquanto estava terminando uma explicação deixando o passo a passo meio confuso.

The first two examples in this course were rather basic and the info seems to come straight from the related module sites. The last examples (Pinterest scraper) zip file doesn’t work with the latest version of MongoDB.

It is a good match. I am looking for an easy way to explicitly do web scraping and have full control over search of elements and the eventually needed string manipulation. With jQuery and cheerio I feel I must have all the means to do that easily and create maintainable code and thus be able to easily modify the code once the outcome of the web scraping changes into something that does not make sense anymore.

This is my first course on web scraping. It is easy to follow with full of examples. It helps scrap data from multiple xmls, and htmls instantly. I wish I took it earlier!
